Dr. Adam McGarity
Dr. McGarity graduated from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008.
He is a native of Charlotte and has always had a passion for pets. As a child, he loved taking care of the family dogs and cats and enjoyed riding horses in Indian Trail.
He attended Charlotte Catholic High School, where he met his future wife, Amanda. He attended NC State University and earned his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. During high school and undergrad, he volunteered at Greenock Farm Veterinary Hospital in Midland, NC, where he worked alongside many proud Auburn University graduates who inspired him to attend Auburn for veterinary school.
Eager to return to the Carolinas, Dr. McGarity and his wife relocated to Rock Hill, where he worked for nine years at Palmetto Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in the friendly, small town of McConnells. He later helped open Palmetto’s 2nd location in Rock Hill. Here, he learned a common-sense, practical approach to veterinary medicine.
Dr. McGarity learned how to take care of pets’ and their owners’ needs, and to do this reasonably and efficiently. After nine years of learning the trade, Dr. McGarity decided he was ready to take on practice ownership.
During the long year of planning and building his new practice, Dr. McGarity accepted a position at Long Animal Hospital in Charlotte. Here, he was exposed to the goings-on of a large, 13-doctor, 24-hour emergency clinic. With such a large caseload, it presented an excellent opportunity to learn new approaches and observe treatments and procedures that only a large hospital can offer.
The entire Killough family was very supportive of Dr. McGarity’s endeavor, and his relationship with the Charlotte icon will continue to be an invaluable resource for him and his patients.
While Dr. McGarity enjoys all aspects of the profession, his special interests include wellness and preventative medicine, surgery, dermatology, and geriatric medicine.
He is an active member of the South Carolina Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
In his spare time, Dr. McGarity enjoys spending time with his lovely wife of 17 years, Amanda, and their two children, Alister and Claire. Together they enjoy cooking, riding bikes, and camping.
For pets, the McGaritys have a big black Goldendoodle named Captain (inspiration for the logo), Little Girl, the cat, and the new pup, Niles.
